Hughes Nearly Hurls Himself Into The History Books

On Wednesday night in Oakland, Phil Hughes was just 6 outs away from a no-hitter. It was not to be. Eric Chavez broke it up in the bottom of the 8th, with a line drive single that ricocheted off of Hughes. But though he lost the no-hitter, he won the game, allowing only 1 hit and 1 run and 10 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings of work as the Yankees beat the A's 3-1.
