The first game of the World Series wasn't what the Yankees or their fans would have hoped for. In fact, thanks to the Phillie's Cliff Lee, the Yankees offense hardly showed up last night...
Lee pitched a complete game against the Bombers, allowing only 1 run on 10 strikeouts without so much as a single walk...
CC Sabathia meanwhile pitched 7 innings allowing only 2 runs--both on Chase Utley home runs--which would have been good enough on another night, but not this one against Lee...
Tonight, the Yanks will look to even the series against Pedro "who's your daddy?" Martinez...
Additional Notes:
The Yankees offense was lackluster except for Derek Jeter who managed 3 hits against Lee...
The Yankees' bullpen struggled yet again in the postseason. Phil Hughes, Dave Robertson, Brian Bruney and Phil Coke were not particularly effective in their relief stints--especially Hughes and Bruney...Only Damaso Marte was really sharp...
Tonight, A.J. Burnett will be on the hill for the Yankees...
Let's Go Yanks!!!!!
