The Bronx Bombers Even The Series

The 2nd game of the World Series wasn't a must-win for the Bombers, but it sure felt like it...imagine them going to Philadelphia down 2-0?

Not a pleasant thought. Luckily, A.J. Burnett felt the same way and showed it with a gutsy performance nothing short of stellar. And it's a good thing too, because Pedro Martinez didn't pitch badly himself...

But Burnett was better, giving the Bombers a chance to win by pitching 7 strong innings while allowing only 1 run on 4 hits...

A home run by Mark Teixeira to tie the game and a Hideki Matsui home run to take the lead 2-1 and the Yanks were on their way to an eventual 3-1 victory and evening up the World Series at 1 game apiece!

Additional Notes:

Mariano Rivera showed once again why he's the greatest reliever of all time, turning in another impressive postseason performance. Mo pitched the 8th and 9th to notch a 6 out save...

Hideki Matsui had 2 hits including his tie-breaking home run...Jorge Posada had a pinch hit single and rbi...

Tomorrow the Yanks are off...The World Series resumes on Saturday with Game 3 in Philadelphia...Andy Pettitte will be on the hill...

Let's Go Yanks!!!!!

ESPN.com has the World Series Game 2 box score.
