Johan Santana is an ace. Of that there is no question. However, if today was the first time you saw him pitch, you might have a hard time believing it...
Simply put, The New York Yankees pummeled Santana. Just how bad was his start? It was quite literally the worst of his career...
By the time he exited the game in the 4th inning--without recording an out, no less--The Yankees had already scored 7 times on 9 hits...All told, they scored 9 runs off of him in just 3 innings of work...
A performance not befitting an ace leading to a big Yankee win...
The Yanks take 2 out of 3 from the Mets...
Round 1 of the Subway series goes to the Yanks!!!!!
Additional Notes:
A.J. Burnett pitched 7 innings of shutout ball...he struggled with control a bit, but other than that, you can't complain...
Derek Jeter went 4 for 4 with 2 rbis...Francisco Cervelli had 3 hits and an rbi...Melky Cabrera had 2 hits and 2 rbis...Robinson Cano had 3 hits including a home run...Robinson Cano had 3 hits including a 2-run home run...Hideki Matsui also had a 2-run home run...
Tomorrow, the Yankees are off and Tuesday they open a 3 game series at home against the Nationals...CC Sabathia will be on the hill...
