So far this season, Darrell Rasner had been busy building a reputation as a pitcher who could give you a quality start. That's why what happened Wednesday night in Oakland came as a bit of a surprise-and not a good one for the Yanks...
Rasner started the game by hurling 2 scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the 3rd. And what trouble! The inning opened with Travis Buck reaching first on a throwing error by Jason Giambi. Then, after Kurt Suzuki fouled out, the Oakland A's got six consecutive hits off of Rasner. When the shelling was over, 6 runs had crossed the plate and the Yankees and Rasner were knocked out of this one early...
Additional Notes:
The Yankee offense, outside of a Jason Giambi home run in the 2nd, was dormant for most of the night...they did manage to score 3 additional runs in the 9th but it was a case of too little, too late...
Ross Ohlendorf was unimpressive in relief, allowing 2 hits, 3 walks and 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of work...
Tomorrow Andy Pettitte takes the mound-he really needs to rebound...
