Yanks' 9th Inning Rally Falls Short

It had the makings of a classic comeback...

The Yankees enter the 9th inning of Friday night's game against the Tigers down 6-2. Wilson Betemit leads off with a double. A wild pitch sends him to third...Robinson Cano grounds out scoring Betemit and cutting the gap 6-3...

Maybe that's it, you think...no one on base now, just two outs to go, and then...

Johnny Damon pinch-hits and hustles his way to an infield single...then another wild pitch puts him in scoring position...

Maybe there's a chance...

But Cabrera grounds out, sending Damon to third...

One out to go...too bad, it's not going to happen tonight...

Then Jeter singles bringing home Damon and now it's 6-4 and Abreu at the plate...Jeter to second...

still hope...

Abreu gets a big clutch hit...a double to left scoring Jeter-It's 6-5! Matsui at the plate...one swing of the bat and we tie this thing!

It's going to happen after all-you can feel it...

And then Leland walks Matsui...

And Duncan flies out...

And the fairytale comeback ending will have to wait for some other night...

Additional Notes:

The Kei Igawa experiment did not work...this was supposed to be an improvement over Ian Kennedy? In 3 innings of work Igawa gave up 11 hits and 6 runs...that averages out to 33 hits and 18 runs over 9 innings...

ENOUGH SAID!

Tomorrow Darrell Rasner goes for his second win of the season...this Tiger lineup will be a good test for him...let's hope he's up for the challenge!

GO YANKS!
