Bronx Bombs Rain Down On Tribe

For a while there it looked like the Yankees might have forgotten how to score a run. Till the 4th inning of Thursday afternoon's game against Cleveland the Yankees had endured a drought of 17 consecutive innings without producing a single run. Then, in that 4th inning they remembered their nickname: "Bronx Bombers"

Johnny Damon hit a solo home run to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and shortly thereafter, with a man on, Jason Giambi planted one in the upper deck in right to make it 3-0...

After Cleveland tied it up in the top of the 5th against Moose, The Yanks promptly answered back with a run in the bottom of the frame to take back the lead...

In the 7th the Yankees got back to the business of living up to their nickname once again-this time courtesy of back-to-back homers by Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit...

4 home runs on the afternoon...Bronx Bombers Indeed!

Additional Notes:

Mussina's start while not remarkable, was good enough to get him the win...his only bad inning was the 5th when he allowed 3 runs...Ohlendorf was effective in relief, pitching a scoreless 6th and 7th...

Joba pitched a scoreless 8th, ending the inning by striking out Dave Dellucci who burned him the other day with that 3-run hr...

Of note, Joba pumped his fist in the air and showed a lot of emotion when he struck out Dellucci...

In my opinion too much is being made of this...It was a simple show of emotion, nothing more...

Joba wants to win and he shows it with all his being-in his effort on the mound and in his emotion walking off of it...

Gotta like his attitude...

Hideki Matsui continues his torrid hitting...he got 2 more hits on Thursday and now has a 17 game hitting streak...

Tomorrow Kei Igawa gets another chance to see what he can do at the big league level...

GO YANKS!
