You know the old maxim that says the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? Every night the Yankee lineup is shuffled and the result is always the same-zip, nada, nothing-an offense that's MIA. Thursday night was no different as the Yankees suffered their third straight defeat to the Detroit Tigers-it was in fact the first time the Yankees were swept at home by the Tigers since 1966!
The night started off promising enough for the Yanks in the first inning when Bobby Abreu belted a 3-run home run deep into the right field stands. But, the 3-0 lead quickly evaporated in the 3rd inning as Ian Kennedy fell victim to shoddy defense ala Damon and Abreu and his own tendency to serve up fat juicy pitches with all the fixin's -all told, 4 runs scored in the frame...
Even though the Yankees managed to tie it in the 5th, the bullpen, led by Abaladejo quickly let this one slip away...Abaladejo had his worst outing of the year surrendering 4 runs on 6 hits in less than 2 innings of work.
Pitching woes aside-the Yankee offense isn't functioning and the constant shuffling of the lineup obviously isn't producing the desired result...so here's a radical suggestion:
How about picking one lineup and sticking with it for more than one night! Draw up what you think is your best lineup and put it out there every night-no changes-Have faith and commit to sticking with it a whole week! I'll bet that lineup will start to hit, and we'll turn this thing around...just a thought, but that's what I'd try at this point...
Tomorrow night it's Wang's turn and he has to play the role of stopper!
GO YANKS!
