After Friday night's rain out, you had to like the revised match up for Saturday's game between the Yankees and the Mets. With all due respect to Darrell Rasner, Pettitte v. Santana is the kind of marquee confrontation that's more apropos of a "Subway Series."
The 2 big game pitchers duked it out and when it was over Santana had outlasted Pettitte and picked up the victory...
This round went to the Mets...
The Yankees got off to a terrific start when Derek Jeter hit a 2 run home run in the first inning, but were only able to score 2 additional runs against Santana over the next 7 1/3 innings...
Pettitte, for his part, started strong, but has been the case of late, ran into trouble in the middle innings-On Saturday, things went south for Andy in the 4th when he surrendered 3 runs on 4 hits..
In the 7th, Kyle Farnsworth relieved Pettitte and promptly allowed a solo hr to Jose Reyes followed by a 2 run shot to David Wright and in the process put the game out of reach for the Yanks...
With Farnsworth it always seems to be 2 steps forward, 1 step back...
Additional Notes:
Although Jeter, Abreu and Giambi all homered off of Santana, it wasn't enough as the Yankees fell to the Mets 7-4...
Tomorrow, Round 2 and luckily we have Ace Wang on the mound...
Let's Go Yanks!!!!
