Mets Derail Wang, Yanks

If you want to know how bad things are in Yankeeland these days consider this: In Sunday night's game against the Mets, the Yankees received a generous gift courtesy of the baseball gods and still wound up losing the game...

The gift came in the 4th inning when Carlos Delgado hit what was initially called a 3-run home run...At the time the score was already 3-0 Mets. The home run made the score 6-0. But the Yankees argued and the umpires reversed the call-they instead ruled it a foul ball-there would be no 3-run shot for Delgado...no 6-0 lead for the Mets...

And yet the replay clearly showed the ball hitting the foul pole...

Now, did the Yankees take advantage of this lucky break? Not these Yankees...as it turned out, that missed call by the umpiring crew proved inconsequential, because the only offense the Yankees could muster on this evening was a 2-run Hideki Matsui home run...

These days even the baseball gods can't help the Yankees much it seems...

Additional Notes:

Wang encountered a rough spot in the 4th inning when giving up 4 runs on 4 hits...ironically to that point he hadn't even surrendered a hit...Pettitte has been having trouble in the 4th and now Wang...maybe 4th inning troubles are contagious...

An uncharacteristically weak showing for Wang, though the defense didn't help his cause...ditto the lack of run support...

Ohlendorf relieved Wang in the 8th and quite simply turned in a dreadful performance, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits in only 1/3 of an inning...

The Mets beat the Yankees 11-2, winning for the second time in as many tries and making this subway series one to forget-for Yankee fans at least...

Fortunately, Monday is a day off and A-Rod will be in the lineup on Tues. against the Orioles...hopefully he'll add a much needed boost to the Yankee offense!

It's early in the season yet, but the hitting has to come around!

Let's Go Yanks!!!!
