Birds Attack Early And Often

Things got ugly in a hurry on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. After Mike Mussina surrendered a two out single to Kevin Millar that gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead, he looked like he was going to escape further damage when he got Luke Scott to ground out to short...

It was not to be...

Derrek Jeter made an error on his throw to first and Scott was safe. The Birds took advantage of the extended inning and proceeded to unleash a relentless attack...

A walk, double, single, wild pitch and a triple followed, chasing Moose from the game-he lasted only 2/3 of an inning...tieing it for the shortest outing of his career...

Ross Ohlendorf relieved Moose and recorded the final out of the frame but not before the O's had scored 7 runs, effectively taking the Yankees out of this one...

Additional Notes:

On a night that was supposed to be all about Alex Rodriguez's return to the Bronx, the Yankees were down 9-0 before he got his first at bat...

Though it didn't make a difference in the outcome of the game, Alex Rodriguez did hit a 2-run hr in his 3rd at bat...it was the only offense the Yanks could produce...

Things could have been worse...In the 3rd inning Derek Jeter was hit with a pitch on the hand and had to leave the game...luckily, x-rays came back negative...they're saying he's day to day...hopefully he'll be back tomorrow...

LaTroy Hawkins was thrown out of the game in the 6th when the home plate ump suspected he was throwing intentionally at Luke Scott...both benches emptied but nothing came of it...

Yanks are about as listless as I've ever seen them...you just know this has to turn around!

Tomorrow Rasner will try for his 3rd win in a row...

GO YANKS!
