On Saturday the Yankees had ample opportunities to score but failed to capitalize on most of them, ultimately losing to the Tribe 4-3...
My gripes with this game are numerous:
- Kennedy gives a half-way decent performance, and gets little run support. Hitting was practically non-existent with runners in scoring position. If it wasn't for the pinch-hit triple by Posada, we would have been shut out.
- Matsui is hitting .321 and he doesn't even get one shot at driving in a run today? I don't care how you have to work him in there, but you gotta get him at least one hack today-just one with runners in scoring position...
- Your lead off guy gets 4 hits on the afternoon but doesn't score a single run. In the 7th, Damon was at second with no outs...in the 9th he was at 3rd with one out...is it too much to ask that he scores at least one of those times?
- Ohlendorf is expected to come on in the 9th and do what exactly? His last outing he gave up 5 runs in one inning. I've heard the argument that he's good for one inning, but I don't buy it. From what I've seen I would never feel confident with him out there-least of all in the 9th with the game tied!
- Here's a shocker: Neither Hawkins nor Farnsworth gave up any runs in their relief stints today-and still we lost!
On other matters...
I heard some of the post game with Joe G. and can't really understand why he's getting frustrated by the media-and in my humble opinion, it is coming across that way...
Questions are just part of the job...and you're going to get a lot of questions-A LOT...some of them you might not know how to respond to, some of them might be redundant-whatever...the point is, answer them as best you can and move on...study tapes of how Torre handled similar questions if you must, but don't come across as being irritated...that will not work...c.'mon Joe you're much too smart for that...how long have you been hanging out in this town?
If you're going to be irritated, be irritated by what you see on the field, be frustrated that you lose...we want to see that kind of frustration from you when it's warranted...
Better the media writes about how irritated you are with losing, than how irritated you are with their questions...
Tomorrow we really need a good performance from Wang, both because we need a win and to rest the bullpen...speaking of which, let's hope this Joba injury is not too serious...
Go Yanks!
