Mama said there'd be days like these...Someday Phil Hughes will stumble upon video of last night's game at Fenway and not recognize himself. "I walked 3 batters and gave up 6 earned runs in 2 innings?" he'll say, or "wow...can't believe they knocked me out in the 3rd..." On that day he'll be a proven commodity-hell, even the ace that's been heralded, maybe-but, not today...for now, the fledgling phenom has yet to prove he can make it in pinstripes...but there's always next start!
On other matters...the bullpen surprised me by keeping it close...Hawkins even struck out Manny in the 6th and retired all three batters he faced in the 8th...Farnsworth of course had to give up at least one run...seems to be the formula with him...whenever the game is tied or close-he finds a way to widen the gap...
As for the offense...why does it keep stalling? When you're down 7-1 in the 4th and you produce a 3-run outburst, you'd think it was a sign of things to come...and in the 8th, why didn't Damon bunt the runners over? Pretty basic stuff...we would've had 2 runners in scoring position with only 1 out...I'll take my chances that either Cano or Abreu would get at least one run in...
On a lighter note...did you catch ESPN's Jon Miller trying to score some "street cred" when he said that Mariah Carey's new album would be "dropped" Tuesday? Jon...just tell us the album will be released on Tuesday...You're not Dr. Dre and we cool wit dat, aight dawg?!!
Kennedy pitches tonight-let's see how he rebounds...Go Yanks!
