Yanks Win Again, Lead Series 3-1!

After Joba Chamberlain gave up an 8th inning game-tying home run to Pedro Feliz, it looked like the Yanks would face a rough road ahead. First they'd have to deal with Philly closer Brad Lidge, and then, since they were in Philadelphia, the Phillies would get the last at bat...

Indeed, Lidge handled the first two Yankee hitters in the 9th without much trouble...but then Johnny Damon stepped to the plate--

--and worked the count to 3-2...

...and battled...

...and battled...

--till he got a base hit!

Then, things got interesting...He stole second base, and, on the very same play, noticing that no one was covering 3rd base, he stole that too!

And things unraveled for Lidge and the Phillies from that point on...Lidge plunked Teixeira and A-Rod doubled, scoring Damon to put the Yankees up 5-4...Jorge Posada followed with a 2-run base hit and the Yanks had a 7-4 lead they would not relinquish...

Mo pitched the 9th for the save and the Yanks took a 3 games to 1 lead in the World Series!

Tonight, they can clinch!

Additional Notes:

CC Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, once again giving his team a chance to win...

Damaso Marte got the only batter he faced, and Joba Chamberlain threw well, despite the home run he gave up...

Mariano Rivera gave his usual stellar performance...

Johnny Damon had 3 hits...Derek Jeter had 2 hits...Jorge Posada had 3 rbi...

Tonight, A.J. Burnett will be on the hill for the Yanks as they try for their 27th World Championship...

Let's Go Yanks!!!!!

ESPN.com has the World Series Game 5 box score.
