The story of Game 5 of the World Series can be summed up in two sentences: A.J. Burnett and Phil Coke didn't have it. Cliff Lee and Chase Utley did.
Lee turned in another solid performance and Utley belted 2 home runs...Burnett meanwhile, couldn't make it through the 3rd inning, and reliever Phil Coke allowed 2 home runs...the result was a Philly win and a trip back to the Bronx...
The Yankees did show a lot of fight, however. They rallied for 4 runs in their last two at bats, turning what was an 8-2 Philly laugher into an 8-6 contest, but in the end it was the City of Brotherly Love that prevailed in this one, not the Pinstripes...
The Yanks still lead the series 3-2 and with Andy Pettitte on the hill Wednesday night--even if he is going on short rest--you've gotta like their chances...
Additional Notes:
A.J. Burnett allowed 6 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks in 2 innings of work...Dave Robertson and Alfredo Aceves each pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief...Phil Coke allowed 2 runs in just 2/3 of an inning...Phil Hughes pitched 1 1/3 of an inning and did not allow a run...
Johnny Damon had 3 hits...Alex Rodriguez had 2 hits and 3 rbi...
Tomorrow, Andy Pettittte will be on the hill for the Yanks in Game 6 of the World Series.
Let's Go Yanks!!!!!
