Yanks Win On 8th Inning Rally

The Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners Tuesday night in the Bronx, on the strength of a 3 run 8th inning...After leading 5-3 going into the top of the 8th, Yankees pitcher Brian Bruney struggled, relinquishing the lead...

In the bottom of the 8th, with the score tied 5-5, Hideki Matsui led off with a double...then, Brett Gardner ran for Matsui and was bunted over to third by Nick Swisher--Swisher was safe at first...

That brought Melky Cabrera to the plate who doubled in Gardner to break the 5-5 tie and give the Yankees a 6-5 lead...

Derek Jeter put it away with a 2 run single to make it 8-5 Yanks...

Additional Notes:

Alex Rodriguez hit a 2-run home run...Melky Cabrera had 3 rbis...Derek Jeter had 2 rbis...

Joba Chamberlain pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits...not one of his better starts...

Phil Hughes pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the 7th...

Mariano River picked up the save--his 501st...

Tomorrow, Andy Pettitte takes the hill...
