Teixeira Leads Yanks Past Tigers

On Friday night in the Bronx, in the 7th inning of the first game after the All-Star break, the Yankees found themselves trailing the Tigers 3-2. Derek Jeter led off with a single...Johnny Damon followed with a double...and then Mark Teixeira stepped up to the plate...

He hit a 3-run home run in the second deck in right field to lift the Yankee 5-3 over the Tigers...

The Yankees take the first game of the three game series with the Tigers...

Additional Notes:

A.J. Burnett pitched well enough to keep the Yankees in this one, although he did experience control problems...he threw 6 full innings allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits...

Phil Hughes pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th in relief, striking out 6 batters...

Mariano Rivera picked up his 24th save of the year...

Today, CC Sabathia takes the hill...
