For seemingly the umpteenth time this year the Yankees came back to win a game they had been trailing in...On Thursday afternoon at the stadium, they were losing 5-1 in the 5th when they rallied for 6 runs--including a Mark Teixeira 3-run double--to take a 6-5 lead over the Rangers...
Then Texas promptly came back to tie the score 6-6...
But this is the Bronx...and in the Bronx, late inning clutch hitting by the Yanks is always a threat...
The Yankees struck in the 8th with a 2-run home run from someone who has become accustomed to coming through in the clutch--Melky Cabrera...the blast put the Pinstripes ahead of the Rangers for good, and with the win, the Yankees take the series 2 games to 3...
Additional Notes:
Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira had 2 hits apiece...Johnny Damon had a hr...
Chien-Ming Wang's return did not go the way he, or the Yankees would've scripted it...He couldn't make it through 5 full innings and when he left, he had surrendered 5 runs on 7 hits...
Aceves, Coke and Robertson picked up the slack--they only allowed 1 run (Aceves gave up a hr) in 3 1/3 innings of relief...
Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless 9th for the save...
Tomorrow the Yanks take on the Tampa Bay Rays...CC Sabathia will take the hill...
Let's Go Yanks!
