Last week in Baltimore CC Sabathia pitched a complete game shutout against the Orioles. So, would he match that tonight against birds of a different feather? Not quite, but close enough to keep the Blue Jays from doing much damage. Sabathia held the Jays to just 2 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings of work, in a 3-2 Yankees victory...
With the win, the Yankees took the series 2 games to 1...that makes 2 consecutive series the Yanks have won...
Additional Notes:
A key defensive play occurred in the 5th, when centerfielder Brett Gardner threw out Rod Barajas at the plate as he tried to score on a John MacDonald single...that kept the score 2-1 Toronto...
Derek Jeter had a clutch game tying single in the 7th...
Hideki Matsui's 8th inning home run proved to be the difference in this one...
Mariano Rivera picked up the save...
Tomorrow the Yanks take on the Twins at Yankee Stadium...Phil Hughes will take the hill...
Let's Go Yanks!
