Yankees Deep-Six Mariners

The Yankees did something on Sunday they hadn't done yet all season-they scored 6 runs in one inning. The offensive eruption took place in the 3rd when Hideki Matsui opened the scoring with a bases loaded double that drove in 2. Then, after Jason Giambi's sacrifice fly brought in another run, Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano followed with back-to-back homers-a 2-run and solo shot respectively, for a grand total of 6 runs in the frame.

The afternoon also saw the 2008 debut of Darrell Rasner, who was just promoted from Triple-A. Tapped by Yankee Intelligentsia to take the place of the injured Phil Hughes, Rasner did not disappoint. Over 6 innings of work he allowed only 2 runs, struck out 4 and didn't allow a walk-the Rasner Protocol was a success...

Will he offer a much needed boost to the starting pitching? Can he repeat what he did on Sunday afternoon? We'll keep our fingers crossed!

Additional Notes:

The bullpen turned in another quality performance...Ohlendorf , Farnsworth and Mo pitched a scoreless inning each...

Though the Yankee offense had gotten off to a sluggish start, the trend seems to be reversing. This was the third game in a row where they scored 5 runs or more...

With Sunday's 8-2 victory over the Mariners, the Yankees also swept the series...

Monday is a day off...Tues Andy Pettitte pitches against the Cleveland Indians in the Bronx...

Go Yanks!
