Moose Weathers First Inning Storm En Route To Yankee Win

Mike Mussina's first inning against the Minnesota Twins Friday night wasn't pretty. In fact it was eerily reminiscent of his start at Yankee Stadium last Tuesday night against the Orioles. Like that game, Friday's contest featured shoddy defense in the first that lengthened the inning and allowed the Twins to score a bunch of runs...

But, there was a critical difference...

Unlike the start against the O's, this time the damage was limited to 4 runs, not 7 and Moose managed to survive the first inning. He then went on to pitch 5 scoreless innings as the Yankees came back and ultimately won the game 6-5 giving Moose his 8th victory of the season...

Additional Notes:

The hits came aplenty tonight-16 in total-as the Yankees managed to come back from an early 4-1 deficit. Hideki Matsui, Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera and Bobby Abreu all had 3 hits apiece...Abreu's hits included 2 triples...Matsui, Rodriguez and Cabrera each had 2 RBIs...

Matsui is now hitting .339-good enough to lead the league!

Jose Veras and Edwar Ramirez pitched a scoreless 7th-Ramirez's ERA is still 0.00 if you can believe it!

The 8th inning was interesting as I imagine it will be all season now that Joba will be starting...Kyle Farnsworth surrendered a home run to Justin Morneau, the first batter he faced in the 8th...at the time, that made the score 6-5 Yankees, and if you were a Yankee fan you held your breath as Farnsworth proceeded to retire the next 3 batters in succession...

That makes 8 home runs that Farnsworth has surrendered this year so far in something like 24 innings I believe...not what you want from a late inning reliever...

I still say, give Edwar Ramirez a shot at that 8th inning spot...

Tomorrow, the Yanks send Wang against the Twins...

GO YANKS!
