For the second straight game the Yankees scored runs in double digits, marking the first time this season they've accomplished that feat...Saturday's drubbing of the Seattle Mariners 12-6 featured many of the same hitting stars from yesterday's game...
Offensive highlights featured a Jason Giambi home run, 4 hits including 3 doubles for Robinson Cano, and 2 hits and 4 rbi for Bobby Abreu...
The offense of late has taken off and shows no sign of slowing down!
Additional Notes:
Mike Mussina struggled through 5 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, but it on this day it was good enough for the win...interestingly, he leads the Yankees in wins now...
We also got to see Phase II of the "Joba Transition." He threw 40 pitches over the 6th and 7th...his first inning was the stronger of the two. His fastball looked great and his slider was simply unhittable...but we knew that already...he only featured a few curve balls...I expect we'll see a lot more of the curves and change ups in the coming weeks as he continues to be stretched out...
Phase II was successful...I wonder though, how things will progress from here on. It will be interesting to see if they can keep him up here for the duration of this transitional phase or if he'll have to go to the minors for a stint...
Kyle Farnsworth pitched the 8th and gave up a 2-run hr...not a pressure situation, but still makes you wonder about his consistency...Before I'm convinced Farnsworth will be reliable in the 8th inning, I want to see him successfully navigate 2 or 3 consecutive pressure-packed situations in a row, and against better teams than Seattle...
Tomorrow Wang goes for win number 7 and the Yankees for the sweep...
Let's Go Yanks!!!!
