Baseball Gods Will Yanks Past Tribe

If the baseball gods don't like cold weather, it certainly didn't discourage them from making an appearance on behalf of the Yankees Monday night in Cleveland. They took center stage in the 6th inning when the Yanks managed to score 4 runs in a manner hardly befitting a team nicknamed, "Bronx Bombers."

Here's how it happened:

Young lefty Aaron Laffey took a 2-0 lead-and a no-hitter-into the 6th...

Melky Cabrera led off with an infield single breaking up the no-no...
Jeter followed with his own infield single...
Abreu lined a single to left-field...
A-Rod took one for the team-Yankees scored their first run...

Giambi grounded out to first-another run scored, tying the game at 2-2...

Matsui followed with a ground out to first-a third run came home, giving the Yanks the lead...

Ensberg got an infield hit-bringing in the fourth and final run of the frame...

How many times do you see 3 infield hits in one inning? 5 out of the 6 baseballs hit that inning never made it past the infield, yet the Yankees produced 4 runs...if that's not the influence of the baseball gods, I don't know what is! Speaking of which, they must like to hang around Cleveland-remember that plague of midges that descended on Joba during the ALDS last year?

Fortunately Monday night they favored Pinstripes!

Additional Notes:

Moose held it together for 5 innings allowing 7 hits but only 2 runs. It wasn't his best performance but taken collectively with his previous effort, Moose is not looking too bad...We might be able to get an average of 6 good innings out of him this year after all...

The bullpen relieved and was nearly flawless the rest of the way. Albaladejo got into a little bit of a jam in the 6th when he gave up a walk and a single, but came away unscathed. Farnsworth pitched a perfect 7th, Joba a perfect 8th, and Mo pitched a perfect 9th and collected the save.

Farnsworth looks like he might be improving but we'll wait and see...Joba and Mo were simply outstanding...

Hideki Matsui, in his first day back after a 2 day hiatus, added an insurance run in the 8th with an rbi double...

Yankees beat the Indians 5-2!

Tomorrow Hughes goes against Detroit at Yankee Stadium for a change!

GO YANKS!
