Pettitte Answers The Call

On Sunday, the Yankees needed a stopper. Fortunately it was Andy Pettitte's turn to take the hill. Not only did he help put an end to the Yankees' losing streak, he delivered a stellar performance that was close to perfect.

Pettitte retired the first 14 batters he faced, before allowing an infield single with 2 outs in the 5th. All told, he pitched 7 innings of shut out ball, allowing only 4 hits and no walks. It was vintage Andy Pettitte and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Pettitte's magic must have rubbed off on the offense too because they showed up for a change. They finally started hitting with runners in scoring position! The Big blows included back-to-back doubles by A-Rod and Matsui in the 4th that staked the Yanks to a 2-0 lead...a 2-run Johnny Damon hr in the 7th and a bases clearing double by Derek Jeter in the 9th.

Mo got some work in the 9th...Yankees won 7-1!

A much needed day off tomorrow...in Chicago on Tues, with Wang on the hill...GO YANKS!
