Yankees Offense Stalls Again

Thursday night in the Bronx, the Yankees lost to the Phillies 7-1. Once again, the Yankees offense stalled--tonight they managed just 1 run in 9 innings...Andy Pettitte pitched well...7 innings allowing just 3 runs--only 2 of which were earned--but tonight, that just wasn't good enough...with the win, the Phillies take 2 of the 3 games against the Bombers...

ESPN.com has all the highlights.

Yanks Can't Solve Moyer

Wednesday night in the Bronx, the Yankees lost to the Phillies 6-3. Yankees' offense just couldn't do much against Jamie Moyer, who only allowed them 2 runs on just 3 hits in 8 innings of work...A.J. Burnett, meanwhile, just didn't have it--he allowed 6 earned runs in less than 4 full innings...On a positive note, Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada had a home run each...

Halladay Can't Stop Yanks

Tuesday night in the Bronx, the Yankees beat the Phillies 8-3 despite the fact that Roy Halladay was on the mound for the Phils...It wasn't Halladay's night as he surrendered home runs to Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira...CC Sabathia, meanwhile, allowed only 3 earned runs in 7 innings of work as the Yanks win the first of the 3 game set with Philadelphia...

Phillies Edge Past Yankees In 11 Innings

For the 2nd straight day in the Bronx, the Yankees managed to stage a comeback in the 9th against Brad Lidge, one of the premier closers in the game...But, unlike yesterday, it didn't translate to a Yankee victory...

The Yanks entered the 9th inning down 3-2 when Robinson Cano led off with a single...Ramiro Pena ran for Cano and stole 2nd base...

That brought up yesterday's hero, Melky Cabrera...

And Cabrera delivered again, with a single that scored Pena and tied the game 3-3...unfortunately the Yankees would not score again in this one...

The game went into the 11th inning, when Brett Tomko, with 2 outs walked Chase Utley who stole second and scored on a Carlos Ruiz double, giving the Phillies a 4-3 lead...

And that's how the score would remain as the Yanks were unable to mount another comeback in the 11th...

With the victory, the Phillies took the series 2-1 from the Yanks...

But on a positive note, this was a successful homestand for the Yankees as they won 8 out of 10 games...

Moreover, on this homestand the Yankees exhibited the kind of heart that makes you think they can go all the way this year...

Additional Notes:

Another strong effort turned in by CC Sabathia--he gave up only 3 runs in 8 innings of work, giving the Yanks a chance to come back...

Mark Teixeira had a home run...

Tomorrow the Yanks take on the Rangers in Texas...Phil Hughes will be on the hill...

Let's Go Yanks!!!!!

Yankees Rally Past Phillies

On Saturday afternoon in the Bronx, the Yankees staged yet another dramatic comeback. This time it was extra special, because it was against the world champion Philadelphia Phillies and their elite closer Brad Lidge...

Entering the 9th, the Yanks trailed 4-2...

Johnny Damon led off the inning with a walk...then with Mark Teixera batting, he stole second base...then, after Teixeira struck out...

Alex Rodriguez stepped up to the plate...

And with 3 balls and 2 strikes on him, hit a clutch game-tying home run into the right field stands...

Cano followed with a single up the middle...

And that brought Melky Cabrera to the plate...

After Cano stole 2nd base...

Melky Cabrera, on a 2-1 pitch, delivered a single to right field, scoring Cano and winning the game 5-4!

Another walk-off hit for Cabrera--his 3rd of the season...

Additional Notes:

Derek Jeter had a home run in the 6th to cut the Phillies' lead to 4-2 at the time...

Andy Pettitte allowed 4 runs in 7 innings of work...Coke and Veras held the fort after that...

Tomorrow, CC Sabathia takes the hill...

Let's Go Yanks!

Phillies Put An End To Yankees Winning Streak

Friday night in the Bronx, Jimmy Rollins greeted A.J. Burnett with a home run to right field on the first pitch of the game. It was a portent of things to come. The shot by Rollins was the first of 4 round trippers for the Phillies, who used the long ball to defeat the Yanks 7-3...

The Yankees hit 3 home runs, but they were all solo shots and weren't enough to catch up...

With the loss, the Yankees winning streak ended at 9...

Additional Notes:

A.J. Burnett wasn't very sharp, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits over just 6 innings of work...

Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira all homered for the Yanks...

Tonight also marked the return of Chien-Ming Wang who relieved Burnett in the 7th...he was less than stellar though, giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits in 3 innings of work...

Tomorrow, Andy Pettitte will take the hill...

Let's Go Yanks!
