Houtson A Broomtown For Yanks

The Yankees completed the sweep of the Houston Astros on Sunday by beating them 13-0. Yankee offense pounded out 16 hits on the afternoon, which included home runs by Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada...

Johnny Damon had 3 hits for the second game in a row and, including Damon, 6 players had multi-hit games...Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada and Robinson Cano had 3 RBIs apiece...

Unfortunately, though, the news out of Houston wasn't all good for the Yanks...In the 6th inning, Chien-Ming Wang who had pitched 5 full innings of shutout ball good enough to earn his 8th win of the year, injured his right foot rounding 3rd base...at this point the extent of his injury remains unknown, but if he should miss more than a start or two, well...let's just hope for the best...

Additional Notes:

Ohlendorf, Ramirez, Hawkins and Giese pitched a scoreless inning each in relief of the injured Wang...

The Yankees are off tomorrow and open up a 3 game series against the Padres on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium...Andy Pettitte will pitch the first game of that series...

10 Wins And Counting For Moose

Last time Mike Mussina took the hill, his 10th win of the season eluded him, thanks in no small part to a lackluster performance by the Yankees' offense. On Saturday night, Moose enjoyed a better fate...

After getting off to a rocky start by surrendering a 3-run home run to Carlos Lee in the 1st inning, Moose settled down and proceeded to shut down the Houston offense the rest of the way. All told, he went 6 innings, allowing only those 3 runs he gave up in the 1st.

Oh, and this time around the Yankee offense picked him up big time, mounting a 12 hit attack that included an Alex Rodriguez home run en route to an 8-4 victory over the Astros...

On this night, Moose's 10th win of the year would not be denied...

Additional Notes:

Johnny Damon, Alex Rodriguez and Melky Cabrera each had a multi-hit game...

Kyle Farnsworth had another successful appearance-this time he pitched a scoreless 8th...

Today, Chien-Ming Wang tries to continue where he left off in his last start, as the Yankees go for the sweep in Houston...

Houston, We Have A Starter!

Joba Chamberlain's pitching performance Friday night perhaps offered a glimpse of the good things we can expect to see from him as a full-fledged starter. He pitched well enough to keep the Houston offense grounded-allowing just 1 run over 6 innings. His control wasn't perfect and he did give up 6 hits, but the bottom line is this:

When you allow only 1 run over 6 innings-that's a quality start every time...

It's too bad the Yankee offense couldn't come through sooner, because Joba deserved to win this one...

Additional Notes:

The difference in the game came courtesy of a Derek Jeter solo home run in the 8th that broke a 1-1 tie...

Jose Veras pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th....he's looking more and more like the 8th inning solution...

Believe it or not Kyle Farnsworth preserved the 2-1 Yankee lead by pitching a scoreless 9th-the effort earned him his first save since 2006...Mo has worked so much lately, he needed a break-luckily Farnsworth succeeded...

Tomorrow Moose will try for yet another quality start...
